POLYSILK 600 is a unique combination of micronized
polyethylene and PTFE that has been specifically modified
to provide a combination of toughness, anti-blocking,
heat and abrasion resistance while imparting a silky feel
and surface lubricity to printing inks and coatings.
POLYSILK 600 is micronized to a NPIRI grind
gauge reading of 2.0-3.0 for easy incorporation into
solvent, oil, or water borne systems by means of a high
speed disperser.
POLYSILK 600 has been formulated to be used
as the sole additive in order to provide excellent immediate
lubricity, surface protection and a smooth feel which
eliminates the need for other additives that are used
to achieve this combination of properties.
Additions of 1-3% by weight are suggested for best
performance. However, the level of addition will depend
on end use requirements. Due to the unique nature of
this product, the optimum effect of a smooth
silky feel will be reached approximately 12 to 24 hours
after application while all other surface protection
characteristics are realized immediately.
POLYSILK 600 can be used in all types of printing
inks, paints and coatings. However, it is especially
recommended for use in the following areas: Solvent
and water based printing inks, lacquers and coatings
applied on non-porous substrates, wood and leather finishes,
coil coatings, industrial finishes, can coatings and
low energy heatset cover inks.
At temperatures above 600oF some polymer fumes may
be emitted due to decomposition of the fluorocarbon
polymer. Therefore, smoking should not be permitted
when working with this material.
