POLYFLUO 190 is a specially modified micronized
fluorocarbon that will impart excellent abrasion resistance
and slip to most printing inks. POLYFLUO 190 has
been processed to a 3.0-4.0 NPIRI grind gauge reading
in order to eliminate the need for compounding or excessive
grinding.
POLYFLUO 190 has been designed to provide the
toughness associated with polyethylene along with the
slip provided by fluorocarbon when incorporated into
printing inks, paints or other types of surface coatings.
POLYFLUO 190 works especially well in letterpress
and offset inks and due to its very fine particle size,
it can be readily dispersed into most ink varnishes
along with flushed or dry colors. This mix can then
be given a normal canning or grind pass over the mill
to produce an excellent grind. Using this method, POLYFLUO
190 has shown to work very well in heat set web
offset inks.
Optimum properties are usually achieved by adding 1-3%
by weight. The amount will vary depending on the type
of coating and the end use requirements.
At temperatures above 600oF some polymer fumes may
be emitted due to decomposition of the fluorocarbon
polymer. Therefore, smoking should not be permitted
when working with this material.
